    □ Samsung Heavy Industries has proved its clean technology to the global market by delivering the world''s first LNG dual-fuel shuttle tanker in the New Year, in which a strengthened regulation by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) on shipping emissions takes effect.

    □ On 21, SHI announced that it had delievered a 130,000-dwt LNG dual-fuel shuttle tanker to Teekey Offshore at its Geoje shipyard.

    □ Aurora Spirit, the first-ever LNG dual-fuel shuttle tanker delivered to date, emits 85% less SOx, 98% less NOx, 98% less particulate matter compared to ships powered by conventional fuels while meeting the IMO target of reducing carbon (CO2) emissions.

This next-generation tanker, the cleanest ever built, is capable of running on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) vented into the atmosphere from tanks during loading and voyage by fully capturing them for reuse as an alternative fuel.

    □ "There will be growing demand for ships emitting less pollutants as environmental regulations become more and more stringent. In this regard, we will do our utmost to keep the highest market share in this area based on our advanced clean technology," said an official of SHI.

    □ Meanwhile, Samsung has been active in other eco-friendly technologies. Last year it developed Korea''s first marine battery system which reduces fuel consumption and operating costs before acquiring Approval in Principle by DNV GL for Aframax tankers powered by fuel cells.
